1. Bangalore Medical college and research institute
The Bangalore Medical College and research center was established in the year 1955. When it was established it was a private medical college and was founded under the Mysore education society. After 2 years of this, it got affiliated to the Mysore University after coming under the Mysore government. Later on, it was shifted under the Bangalore university. With the increase in the advanced technology that the college has and the escalation of the standard of the education in the college, it got affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences.
Being an MCI recognized college it runs several undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Among these, here are around 150 seats for the undergraduate medical course that is under the central government quota and another set of 100 seats that are under the state medical quota. Apart from these, there are 135 seats for the postgraduate medical program along with 71 for the diploma courses.
2. St John’s Medical college
The foundation of SJMC or the St. John’s medical college was laid in the year 1964 and was finally completed and started functioning in the year 1968. The college’s own hospital was established after that in 1975. Later on, along with the medical college, a college of nursing was added to its premises. The college is the one of the topmost medical colleges in the state and has been ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in the country. The college offers an undergraduate medical program that is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences and has a total intake of 150 students annually. Apart from these, there are several postgraduate, superficiality and PhD fellowship program that is offered by the college.
3. Kempegowda institute of medical sciences
The Kempegowda institute of medical sciences or KIMS was established in the year 1980 and is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences. Since then it is functioning as the topmost medical college in the state for the undergraduate course in medicine. The postgraduate course of the college started a decade after its establishment in 1991-1992. It is present at two locations, the BDA (Bangalore Development authority) complex and the V V Puram. The one at the BDA complex host the pre-clinical and the para-clinical department of the college. While the one at the V.V. Puram has the clinical and the affiliated hospital i.e., the KIMS hospital within its premises.
4. Vydehi institute of medical sciences
The Vydehi Healthcare education system consists of three outstanding colleges. These are the Vydehi Hospital and research center, The Vydehi Institute of medical sciences and research center and the Vydehi school of excellence. 5. BR Ambedkar Medical college
The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Medical college was founded in the year 1981. It then organised and managed by the Anandaa Social and Education Trust. The college was established with the vision to help the SC and ST students and students of the underprivileged strata of the society to get educated and excel in the field of medicine. Alongside the school of medicine, the institute also has a Dental College, College and School of Nursing, College of Physiotherapy and as well as the Institutes of Medical Laboratory Technology and Radiography. In its earlier days the college was affiliated to the Bangalore university, but later on, it got affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. This helped the college get the MCI recognition for the 100 students intake that it has annually.
6. Sapthagiri institute of medical sciences and research center
The Sapthagiri institute of medical sciences and research center was founded and managed by the Sri Srinivasa Educational & Charitable Trust, Bengaluru. The institute consists of a tertiary care multispecialty hospital that is integrated with a world class education system for medicine at both the undergraduate and the postgraduate level. Along with the main medicine stream, the college offers courses in preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative medicinal domains. The college has an annual intake of approximately 150 students in the undergraduate program (MBBS) that are chosen through 3 mediums, the CET, the COMED-K and the management seats. Apart from this, the college offers several paramedical and postgraduate courses for the students to choose from.
7. M S Ramaiah Medical college
The M S Ramaiah Medical college is was founded in 1962 by the Gokula Education Foundation. Apart from the medical college, the trust manages 17 other institutes that have engineering, medical and general sciences as their main streams of education. The medical college offers both undergraduate course in medicine as well as the postgraduate course in several preclinical, paramedical and clinical sciences. These postgraduate courses may lead to MD, MS or PG Diploma qualification of the student. The undergraduate medicine program has a total intake of 150 students annually. Whereas, the postgraduate medicine program with all the courses has a total intake of 90 annually. Apart from this, the college also offers several super specialty courses that have a total intake of 15 per year.
8. MVJ Medical college and research center
The MVJ Medical college and research center was established in 2001 by the Venkatesha Education Society. The college offers a highly well developed undergraduate program in medicine (MBBS) that is well known in the state. The college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and has the MCI recognition for all its medicine related courses. Apart from the undergraduate program the college also offers 12 courses for post graduation and 6 courses for diploma in several fields of medical sciences. The undergraduate MBBS program has a total annual intake of 150 students that the college fills through KEA, CET and NEET.
9. BGS global institute of medical sciences
The BGS global institute of medical sciences was founded in 1973 and is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi university of Health sciences. The college is managed by the Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust. The undergraduate program of the medical college has a total of 150 seats that are filled by CET, COMED-K and the rest are through management or NRI quota. The college also offers several postgraduate courses in pre-clinical, clinical and paramedical specialities. The admision in the postgraduate course is done through the country wide NEET examination for PG entrance. The college also offers the students a full fledged infrastructure that is equipped with the latest technologies that are there for the medical sciences.
10. Mandya institute of medical sciences.
The Mandya institute of medical sciences is an autonomous government institute under the government of Karnataka. The college is affiliated with a teaching hospital of its own that has a capacity of 550 beds in its infrastructure. The college offers the medicine undergraduate program and several postgraduate program. The undergraduate MBBS program fills 85% of its seats through the CET, while the rest 15% is filled by NEET at the national level. Apart from the basic courses, the college also offers several paramedical courses for students to study medicine. To maintain the standard of the education offered, the college is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences and has the recognition of MCI.
